The first ever short track series has just cleaned up at Queensland Raceway and I think it should have left everyone with a lot of interesting results and thoughts to bring away from the maiden 3 round comp. Honestly for me this is the first competition that has a real chance at changing drifting in Queensland, it’s unlike any other that has come and gone before it. I’m sure everyone would agree the driving is fantastic, it gets spectators close enough without compromising the speed of the course, showcases a good mix of grassroots and sponsored drivers, they’ve made a great effort to continually have something happening on track and the music, combined with the commentary are unrivaled. This has to be the first series I’ve ever been to where the commentary is genuinely funny and interesting, everything else has almost made my ears bleed. What I found most interesting about last nights final round was the crowds willingness to get into the action a little more this time around. Funnily enough, the majority of the time it almost wasn’t ever the sponsored drivers getting them to cheer and bring their hands together or chat about it today. It was, as always the amateur drivers performing 4 car trains in between battles and little known driver Flynn Dowling sleighing some of the sponsored drivers in the comp. I think its what makes this series so unique and starting to attract more and more spectators, photographers and sponsors into the mix, and it says something about what people enjoy watching and what they’re coming to see.As long as it doesn’t lose this combination of drivers and cars when the new series kicks off later in the year, it WILL be the best competition in Queensland, if it hasn’t already taken that title.

New lens, and hopefully some decent photo’s to come from the final round of the Short Track drifting competition on Friday night.
